Deb mentioned in the weather thread but it looks like Florence deserves her own thread.

Hurricanes rarely follow this path. There are no records of a hurricane starting there actually making it to he coast.
But.... there is a large blocking high projected to off of new england which will keep it on that east west path.

The models put North Carolina in the Bullseye right now.
This may be a bigger impact than other storms since it will coming straight onshore with a bigger storm surge.

Yep, Wilmington is still the bullseye as of now. Which means my niece (in New Bern) will be slammed. Fortunately, she is not direct waterfront. That is somewhat better for Val and Jim. It would be very difficult for them to evacuate, but they do have a plan if it becomes absolutely necessary. for everyone.

Somehow the dragon in a hurricane downpour sounds more exciting than I want.

Just in case, I did order a NOAA radio - has a lot of features for a very reasonable price. Do not have a portable radio and have been meaning to get one. Will receive on Wed well before needed.

I saw one pocket not far from Raleigh NC showing 15-30" of rain! My niece is not too far from Raleigh.
