Default The flu

I have been in bed since Monday with the flu and fever spikes from 100 -102 everyday till this morning when in a pool of sweat the fever broke. I had the usual vomiting, the D-word etc. This is the first time in 15 years I missed more than an afternoon of work due to illness but this week I could not get out of bed period.

I use to think when sick I had the flu but I was dead wrong, this is the first time I got the flu....... it is no fun time I can assure you.

Today is the first day I am vertical. I have a weight loss of 12lbs (didnt hurt me) adn am extremely week. I was able to keep food down today for the first time in 5 days. And to top things off I got the flu shot this year.

So have you got it this year?

We've been spared. Outbreaks in our area have been limited. Both of us had flu shots before the "shortage."

Hope your wife and baby remain germ free and that you feel better soon.

I have been fortunate. Everyone in my office had gotten sick at one time or the other but I have been spared. Knock on wood! Drink plenty of fluid and take care of yourself. Since there are so many varieties of flu, flu vaccination targets the most likely one for the season. It's either hit or miss. In your case, it might have been a miss. Who knows for sure?

I felt strange on Tuesday am at breakfast (pls: no smart comments) but went to the office. As the day progressed, I felt more and more tired....unsettled....perhaps slight elevated temp. I cancelled a late PM Habitat meeting and night at the Phila Orchestra .....went home and crawled into bed at 4 pm. Headaches, chills, fever, extreme fatigue; thankfully, none of charlie's Flu-like symptoms (nose/chest/GI tract). Basically, I slept 19-20 of the next 24 hours. I only missed one day of work, but am still not back to normal (pls: still no smart comments )

Unfortunately, I must have passed it to Kathy b/c she started the same routine on Friday morning and is only now starting to feel better

So.....watch out for passing this one, and note that the gestation period (after exposure) seems to be about 3 days.

Oh, yeah...I also had the Flu shot about a month ago. This was not the Flu and probably a bug picked up at a party on Sunday night (other people reported similar symptoms). It's hard to avoid exposure unless you want to live under a bubble

I had two really bad colds within a month of each other, both lasting about two weeks before I really felt completely well. Don't usually get sick, so I definitely didn't like it. No flu, though, thank goodness. A nurse I see on the subway sometimes said the DC area was hit hard by flu/colds this winter.

Have not had the flu or major cold in almost 20 years. I know its not taking care of myself (smoke, drink, don't excise enough, etc) so I guess I need to thank my parents for good genes. My wife has come down with the flu a few times this year. I think our granddaughter has been bringing stuff home from day care.

I haven't had the flu in so long the last time I know I did I was in the 5th grade. I felt really crummy last Monday, with chills/sweats, a headache and a backache. I didn't have the flu but I had tonsillitis on the left tonsil, which then moved to the right tonsil. I kicked it's butt quickly though. My new miracle cure is Chewable Vitamin C. The swallow kind don't do much for me but after chewing two 500 mg vitamin Cs, everyday, I got better quickly. (I know taking excess C is just flushing $ down the toilet, but I'll do it anyway.)

Kryas have to agree with you. I take 1000mg daily. If I feel a cold coming on I double the dose. I know that you will "flush" what your body doen't use but I know that I have avoided the flu and colds with this regimen.
