the future of marriage

flts,
That's an excellent question. I would be interested to find out what they intend to do (changing names), if anything.
Of course, in modern America, this question is legitimate even for traditional marriages. I know quite a few wives who really don't like being called Mrs. <insert husband's last name here>. However, with respect to etiquette for formal invitations, etc., that's what's usually done.
BTW, I agree with Zippy on Ms. and Ms. X, provided that a common X has been decided on. Perhaps they'll invent a hypenated X; I know folks who've done that in the past to preserve both last names.

Bill, Patty, Rodney,
If you guys are serious about this question of why someone is a lesbian/gay, then I think you are really wasting your time. You're talking about nature vs. nurture, and these debates are almost always inconclusive.
In my experience, I believe I have met people who have always been gay, and people who have changed teams. All the lesbians I know have been of the latter variety, but that proves nothing to me.

Chazmo,
I'm just here for the fun of it. I don't think there is a right answer. People are different and do things for different reasons.
I was one of those who got married in 1984 and hyphenated my last name, maiden-married. That was before kids so I dropped the maiden later. When I worked at Edwards Air Force Base the security guys would give me grief over it. "Who do you think you are, Ms. Hollywood?"

If you have to do that, make it Ms. North Hollywood. I grew up there and didn't move until I was 23 and got my first "real" job after college.
