Back on topic then.....I just ran an errand. Decided to eat an apple when I got home. Washed my hands first.

With only notable exceptions, most all infections require fairly significant - if not gross - contact/contamintion with these disease causing agents. As such, anything you can do to limit the amount of exposure is in your best interest, to include gloves, masks, sanitizers, handwashing, etc.

Yep, I can only think of a few bacterial diseases that only require a very limited exposure. Being relatively fragile by nature, it's probably the same for viruses. I'm not sure if the same applies to prions, as I haven't kept up with the literature.

^^ Yup, same is true for viruses, and for lack of data, I don't think anybody has a handle on infectious doses for prions. SBE suggests a fairly hefty dose, and C-J doesn't appear to have a non-human primate model.

Let's say I go to a cocktail party where I find out there are a bunch of Republicans in attendance. To be polite I shake hands with a a lot people. ...Would the hand sanitizer help me rid myself of the germs I don't want lingering on my hands, after all the hand shaking???
Lainey, as you well know, Republicans will not give you ANYTHING, unless directed to do so by an act of congress!!!

I love the guys at work who wash their hands after using the facilities.
we have these stupid sensor based faucets, they wave their hands underneath once and consider that washing.
