Default GM cars

Its been over 10 years since I owned one.... never too late to learn. Maybe other brands are like this as well; but sure seems odd to me. Working on a 2003 Cadillac CTS and I couldn't get the key out of the ignition. Called the dealer service and told him the only issue I'm aware of is the battery is dead. He said, "That's the reason." Unless the ignition has juice to it, it can not release the key. Nice design and apparently its been around for some time.

And to think I can just remove the key in the MG without doing a thing; heck, I don't even need a key to start it; If you go to spot "X" and bridge it with anything metal like a screwdriver, it will start.

GM cars are very popular cars with the elderly eastern European immigrant population where I've lived.

I had an Oldsmobile and they discontinued them. I had Pontiacs and they discontinued them. They really don't want me to buy any other of their brands.

Don't be so sure. Which GM brand isn't doing well? Maybe your purchase will be the sign they need to pull the plug!!

Funny to read this, this evening...

Was out walking the dog with my better half... and a guy who lives down the street couldn't get the key out of his Trailblazer ignition, get his lights on, take the car out of gear, etc....

I said... its your battery!

Tightened up his cables which were loose.... grabbed the Genesis, and gave him a jump... after about 4 minutes of running my car with the jumper cables attached... his started...

Last GM cars I owned was loooooooooog ago. Chevy Impala; Chevelle SS396, and two 442 Oldsmobiles. Last GM car I drove was an Australian Holden V8. Holden went belly up last month. No more domestic cars in Oz as Ford closed their plant as well.

My last GM car was a 1956 Chevy wagon, long time ago.
on another note, wasn't our S cars about the first assembly line car in years to have the push button start? I'm renting a POS Mazda 3. here in Maui, has no extras at all, but it has keyless go, with the push button start. Huh?

Update - because of the ignition needing power to remove the key or even recognize it, I couldn't even put the damn car in "N" to roll it out of the garage. Grandson didn't have the money to finish up the "job". I wasn't feeling any remorse since I had already given him the money to cover the cost of the parts and he didn't - - said life's needs or some smart remark took up it; i.e., other bills to pay. I needed my garage back for the winter and gave him some tough love. A deadline.

I took all these parts that were removed and managed to get them all into the trunk and interior, along with a new radiator, etc.

Called the tow company, they put the "sticks" around the rear tires (thankfully its rear wheel drive) and hauled it back to his mom's place. I'm pretty sure it will sit there all winter. Last I want to see of a GM car for awhile.
