bluerooster,
I wandered away from the safe zone of the "allegheny" s2 club and left myself wide open for that.

Welcome!
My +1 soon has a birthday coming up, so I've been wracking my brain as to what I should give him for his birthday. Finally it occurred to me I should give him his own portable GPS unit since I hate it when he uses mine (I know, selfish of me, but I hate it when I want to use it and he's got it). SOOOO, I ordered him a Magellan Roadmate 2000 for less than $200. It looks like a nice unit and my son is totally sold on his Magellan, so I figured it'd be kind of neat to have both a Magellan and a Garmin. I guess I'll soon know which one I like better.

Welcome!
Update on the Magellan Roadmate 2000. I gave it to +1 yesterday as a birthday gift. I'd read in a GPS Magazine that it was the best gps system for under $200. (I paid $192 for it from Beach Camera). Anyway, it is fabulous!! I'm jealous since it has a detour feature that I'd love to have. Great, clear instructions, really nice display and all the features I'd want. I like to use the gps JUST to get me where I want to go and get me back with ease. This one certainly meets that criteria. It was ready to go out of the box and a really nice little inexpensive system. I'm particularly pleased that we now each have our own GPS units. This is an article about the Roadmate 2000:

If you're looking for an extra little system without breaking the bank, I'd recommend this one. It does all the things that many of the more expensive mapping/directional systems do and is quite affordable.

I got my Nuvi 660 Friday and have been playing with it. While it still won't fetch a stick, it does just about everything else. Now I need to work up a way to mount it in the car. I am trying to get away from suction cups as it makes putting in the sun screen a PITD. Plus with planning a trip to CA this year, suction cups are illegal. Has anyone used different mounts for their GPS?
