^Isn't that weird to think about now? To me it is. Why was it so important to make leftied into righties years ago? My daughter is a lefty and I understand from her that it's inconvenient when desks are made for righties. And scissors.

My son is a lefty, but he plays sports right handed....I WAS a lefty, but Mom kept switching things to my right hand...I still do a few things as a lefty.

I know certain things were difficult for those who were left handed in school. Scissors, as Patty mentioned, and a stenography note pad (for those taking shorthand back in the day), was often used with the metal spiral at the bottom vs the top.

My brother was ambidextrous.
when he was learning to print he'd swap hadns depending on which way the slope went.
later on he made it simpler and would use two pencils, one in each hand.

Once he hit formal education they broke that little habit.

I cannot speak for others, but in my case my teachers hated receiving my essays. My cursive would lean to the right when right handed and lean to the left when left handed, it made for a distinctive style!

I suppose it really made a difference in the days before ball point pens. I've never tried writing with a fountain pen or dip pen, but I bet I would make an awful mess as my hand dragged over the fresh ink.

Like most of you, my 'writing' is now mostly on this damned keyboard

I can write pretty neatly in cursive, and can (as an pre-CAD architect ) still print VERY nicely. Back in the 60s, most of our drawings were hand lettered...although important presentation drawings were done in INK on Strathmere

Since I use the computer so much now my handwriting is terrible. I got enough handwriting practice in Catholic School. So I just scrible to get it overwith if I have to write something.
