Default Happy Birthday Mazda Miata

This year is the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the Mazda Miata. The Miata is responsible for the renewed interest in the open top, two seat sports car/roadster, a category that had been abandoned and largely forgotten. It's success lead to cars like the BMW Z-3/Z-4, Audi TT, Porsche Boxster and most importantly our Honda S2000.

I think the Miata is a great car, and if not for the S2000, I'd probably own one.

Happy 25th birthday Miata. Thanks for bringing back the fun.

Wow time sure does go by. The Miata is one car that I've never had the opportunity to drive but would like to try one some time. I always thought the mazda speed Miata would be a neat toy to have.

It's an Icon. I have driven several. my brother-in-law has a 2011 hardtop convertible stick. Fun to drive and inexpensive to maintain.

i came close to buying them twice. Great that Mazda kept this open two seater alive. That may have prompted Honda to build the S2000. i'm glad I waited, the S is just so much more car

Back when the miata was first introduced, you could get an incredible deal on a mazda 929 sedan.
In order to get miatas dealers had to do floor planning which included the 929 which dealers had a hard time giving away.

1. When they first came out, the price was $12k, and it got my attention.
2. Nest thing I knew the price was an outrageous $20k!
3. I rented one 20 yrs. ago, and wanted one ever since.
4. I was going to buy one finally, 4 yrs. ago, since kids were out of college and gone, but as I had 20 used and new Miatas lined up to check out, someone gave me a talk about the S2000.
5. I guess you know where I'm going with this, and you get the idea: 04, 9k miles, picked up a hardtop and winter snows, and now have only 51k miles on it 4 yrs. later.
6. Drove a Miata twice since, and the Vtec has ruined me on them.
