The Hobby thread
Most particularly motorcycles and traveling to/camping at motorcycle races. In the summers it's also boating and fishing. Mix in a couple of S meets each year. Also, entertaining the grandkids. Time wise it's probably reading most anything I can find that is non-fiction.
Number one has to be Sports Cars. Sports cars are not pragmatic goods that we acquire as necessities, rather they speak to our emotional needs. The reason is one of these, or maybe all of these: Displaying financial success, projecting virility or physical power, aesthetic gratification, self image, and thrill seeking.
Whatever it is, I fully admit to be powerless to the obsession- I collect the books, the art, the model cars, the history, wrench on them, vintage racing, rallies, car shows, you name it - new, old, really old, it does not matter - I love it all. There's a freedom and spirit with them that's in my soul.
Aside from always wanting to be a race car driver, there's always been the desire to be an Artist. When I'm not painting monkey's, I paint race car drivers and other stuff. Right Lainey.
Additionally there's a lot of things that I enjoy in no special order - fishing, music from the Green Door period on to the Beatles, photography, my dog (ops the dog I bought for my wife), genealogy, playing on the pc, hockey (watching the Red Wings and my grandson), ....... so much to do and so little time. . . . is drinking and dancing a hobby?

Cars, surfing, snowboarding, and boardgames. I am a boardgame geek. Or was anyway. Puerto Rico FTW. Surfing's been kind of difficult after getting the S...that, and I obliterated my shoulder while snowboarding a few years back.
I've been meaning to do a search on that actually, anyone ever transport a longboard in their S?
Oh and investing =p

Val -- beautiful work! The porcelains are gorgeous but I'm particularly partial to the second painting -- the woman. She would look great in my bedroom (when it's finished
)
Patty, great work!
I don't have any digital pics in my computer -- too many computer crashes on too many computers. I'll try to dig out a snapshot of my favorite piece and see if I can take a picture of a picture. It was a fairly large (as I recall maybe about 30" x 50") piece I designed and did for a friend in Houston who had a restaurant. If I can't do that, I'll go by the restaurant on my next trip to Houston and try to take a photo since he had it installed as a window. He has since passed away, but I'm pretty sure the piece is still there.
My second favorite piece was a really large (3' x 5') of two pink flamingoes in front of a giant red sun with palm trees on the sides. Unfortunately, I had loaned it to the same friend who had it hanging in his last restaurant when the restaurant burned. The piece melted in the fire.

I think I've posted these before, but these are some of the pieces of handbuilt porcelain I've made and some of my attempts at painting:
