How about a controversial thread?
Wow Cordy
You got to leave that swordfish alone. You'll end up like the Mad Hatters.
I have no idea what to do to clean mercury out of your system. Maybe if you stood out naked on a frigid nountain top then just like a thermometer the mercury would go down.
Many people limit their fish intake because of mercury poisoning. Some species hold more mercury than others.

Flats,
I got some really disturbing news from my doctor yesterday--she said that I should cut down my fish intake to once a week. Mercury. As a huge sushi lover, this is not good news for me.
Have a recipe that will take care of that?

Look for farm-bred stuff, Cordy.
^^^ cordycord - start eating less maguro and toro. Try some other stuff such as salmon that are less likely to be laden with mercury. When I'm up in Alaska the white king salmon sashimi is awesome!
a sushi-eating Conservative?!?

Rob,
I saw your latest controversy from the NYT. As I'm not a member of the club, NYT did not allow me access to their story. NYT, at this point, is little better than the Star or National Enquirer.
How much have they said about Eason Jordan? Our version of NYT in the West (LAT) hasn't said a PEEP, except possibly today. Too late...
I'll poke around today on the web and find out what REALLY happened with this story. And I'll be happy to share it with you.
edit--Finally got to the NYT article. Hmmm, Clark thought Al Qaeda was a threat. Let's see how far this re-hash of old news gets, even in the MSM.

As far as I know, you're only way to avoid Mercury is to stay away from the deep-sea fish. God, I hear you, that'd be tough.

Farm raised is not necessarily safer, particularly with salmon - lots of PCBs and other toxins..
I think you're right Dean. I've heard that the bigger, older fish (big ol' tuna, for example) have higher concentrations of the bad stuff.
By the way, my eyeballs, veins or even hair has NOT turned silver, yet!
I plan to keep on munching on fish, especially since we all know that all the red meat is infected with mad cow...

It's basic marine ecology - big ones eat little ones. That's what makes barracuda so dangerous to eat. They're apex predators.
So far WE are the ultimate APEX predator.
Am Iright or are we the Ultimate Omnivore? What's your perspective?fltsfshr

If brain power and technology are factored in, we are the ultimate predators. But mano a mano against almost any apex predator on its own turf, we're toast.
