How ever did we function...

I'd be a lot thinner without the internet. I'd have completed a lot more home projects. I'd spend more time with my wife. I waste a lot of time here. That is coming to an end again.

I continually say the same thing - although I do my eating in front of the tv late at night - but I agree with your other insights. The trouble is it's like a magnet that keeps drawing me back!

....on almost all counts. OTOH, I'm hoping to drag out my 'between consulting' status for another 6 weeks...
I've been having a great time since our return from NZ....such as washing the S today...at 3 pm on a Wednesday in 55* weather
While I love Google too, I don't think anyone has mentioned how the WWW simplifies our personal financial life. I can check my Vanguard portfolio in about 30 seconds; and pay schedule all of my credit card payments for 1 day or 1 week ahead.
As Bill already said, the biggest problem is wasting time....like too many hours spent right HERE

My random memories of before the internet:
Shopping for a camera lens by searching through countless full page magazine adds full of tiny print. Choosing one based only on manufacturer, focal length and price. Customer reviews? No such thing.
Waiting days for interlibrary loan to deliver a book I wanted, or driving to libraries all over SoCal if they weren't part of the loan system. Then finding out that the article didn't have any info I needed.
Driving to 10 different electronics stores in one day to compare stereo components.
My girlfriend spending an entire evening calling long distance information getting the phone numbers of the admissions offices of the law schools she was interested in. Then going through a roll of quarters on a payphone calling to request applications.
One other guy at work had the same car I did. So we had an "owners community" that shared maintenance tips, rumors about next year's model, etc.
