Patty, I heard recently that the fluid in the feeders should be changed quite frequently.....maybe every couple days. Otherwise, sounds like the sugar can turn bad and give 'em a tummy ache....or worse

Another tip: Hummers do NOT allegedly like the color Yellow. This is strange because many feeders seem to have some yellow parts....like a perching ring etc.

^Yeah, I know about all that refill the feeders stuff. I don't listen. If the birds want to drink, I say, let 'em! Besides, one week is quick in my book. I've had feeders sit out for much longer than that. Good thing there's no League of Hummer's Rights Organization.

Wow, Glen...beautiful pics!! You haven't posted in awhile. For those who don't know, Glen is in possession of a very nice collection of vehicles, and IIRC a very nice garage to put them in! See his sig above. With a 2009 M3 on the way!

I change the feed weekly. I think they are smart enough not to drink the feed if it's going bad in any way. I do notice that when I put the fresh feed out they show up right away. They must be watching me from a tree branch or something.

The feeders do have yellow on them, and the hummers still show up.

I would like to see more of the hummers. They fascinate me, but then again, I'm easily amused.

Hi Deb,
I guess it has been a while since I've checked in. The M3 will be Darla's. She wanted a convertible but not a manual transmission. I was all set to get her a nice '07 SL55 when we decided to test drive the new M3. That was it. Amazing car......I just hope she lets me behind the wheel occasionally

I see they get more active and more territorial as they get closer to heading south.

How many do you see in your yard, Ed?

I can only account for three this season...some seasons four.
Over the years, the most I've seen at one time is 9. If you don't see them all at once, it's hard to tell if it's 12 birds or 3 birds 4 times each...

The other interesting thing we get in the fall is extended families of bluebirds (think "zippety-doo-dah", not blue jays like the Toronto baseball mascot) at the birdbath. I have some photos of 7 or 8 of them at one time. We got a pair to nest in our box one year, but gave up fighting the House Sparrows (thank you, NYC) and took the boxes down.

^Neat. I've never seen one with blue before. I've got a lot of action at my feeders. I just refilled them again this morning, after refilling them last Saturday morning. First time they've been emptied in 5 days.
