Default I hate this!

As some of you know, Bea's car was totalled almost 2 weeks ago when she was rear-ended by a distracted driver. After agonizingly slow dealings with the insurance companies (I won't get into that), we finally got an acceptable settlement offer (no check yet, however, but they do have the car and title) Since the Crosstour is no longer made (2015 was the last year), there are very few low mileage 2014 models available, and none within the local area. I have located two about 90 miles away, and they are at "big city" car dealerships, who seem to think that they are doing me a favor to talk to me. Anyway, after explaining the circumstances and that I really don't want to be doing this, since it is only out of necessity (playing on their sympathy, I hope) I think we are getting somewhere. All the dealings so far have been over the phone, so tomorrow we plan to visit the two dealerships that are within 30 minutes of each other and look at the two Certified Pre-Owned 2014 Crosstours. Hopefully I can keep my cool, and we will return home with one, with no extended warranty, up-sells, or anything like that at the dealerships.

I am so fortunate that when I need a new car, Rick just brings one home from work.

I have to admit I was surprised when we bought the S2000 that the experience wasn't all that bad. We wanted it, they had it, a price was agreed upon and all were happy. I did have one VERY unpleasant experience at a Nissan dealership with my daughter in law. The guy and the business gave car dealerships a real bad name.

Good luck, Gene!

Advice from a former salesman (not cars or insurance). Maintain control, if and when they try to "push" you, say thanks and get up, I have found that to be a workable strategy. But that is just my thoughts.

Lainey, when we bought the Crosstour locally a year and a half ago, it was a very pleasant experience. No haggling, no up-sell, here's the price, which I thought was fair, and we were out the door. Course it helped that we knew the IT Manager who put a bug in the Sales Manager's ear! We'll see how this goes.

Never knew anyone who bought a Crosstour let alone anyone who bought another one. Everyone around here just steps up to the Outback and puts the EyeSight cruise package on it.

Different strokes, I guess. There are at least 3 of us on here who have them, and now 2 who have bought 2. We looked at the Outback, but felt it was underpowered. Besides, the Eyesight would not have prevented her accident unless it could have stopped the lady who rear-ended her.

Gene,

The only way to deal with a car salesman is to have a very independent attitude, and don't let them know you need or want the car. Otherwise they act like they're doing you a favor.

You are at a bit of a disadvantage in that there is little competition, since they are no longer made. So negotiating will be a bit more tricky if you really want one of the two you saw. Hope one of them works out.
