I thought it was sometime in the 70s when they were all using the Offy engines (I think).

wow! if all 33 starters used the same engine they would have put 16,500 on the poor thing....not to mention all that work moving it from one car to another....

^ - So all the cars in today's race are running with the same engine???!!! That is amazing...I guess my big question is why??? Isn't there any competition out there? You can tell I'm not following this too closely, but what one is it this time?

No, Deb. Today it's Honda with I believe 8 of the first 10 qualifiers (woo hoo), Toyota, and Chevy.
I'll have to agree with Rob on the Offy engine, although there may have been a time in the 70's or 80's when they all ran Cosworths?

Rob - You are partly right. From the time the track re-opened after the war 1947 until the early 60's the offy won every race. Once the funny cars took over in the mid 60's the offy was dead. They did come out with a turbocharged engine that won some races in the funny cars.
A Clue - Californian's finished first and second in a race considered one of the best ever with 30 lead changes.
