Well the S2k does not get out until the first spring rains wash off the salt from the roads. So mine is pretty much rust free minus a small amount on one rear quarter. I had planned to have that fixed and do a full repaint this winter, but some other large things of higher priority came along so that will be this next winter. But I have yet to deal with a seized fastener on it. It is super clean and rust free underneath.

I made a half A$$ed inquiry into this recently. Hagerty requires a garage, correct? Grundy too? What about the mileage you put on the car? You hit the road often, isn't it an issue?

Our insurance company for the auto, home and umbrella policy are now like a cable bundle. If I pulled one vehicle, chances are other rates would rise... Do you insure your S for a specific value?

My agent is a former co worker. He says he has done some fighting of late to make sure people are getting what their cars are valued at, especially in this time when used cars are worth more than the norm. What IS the value on a 17 year old S2000 with 119K miles............? Hmmmmm

I switched to Hagerty primarily because of the value of my S. My regular insurance co. would give me book value if it ever (GOD FORBID) got totaled Hagerty gives me real world value. I had my S and my WRX insured through the same co. so when I switched the s over to hagerty I lost my multi car discount. They relaxed their rules a bit as far as mileage and where you take the car they just don't want it to be your sole daily driver.
As far as value for your S it is tough to pinpoint exactly but if your S is one owner with no paintwork/accidents and you have all your records with the mileage then I would insure it for somewhere between 17 and 20k.

"She's had a little work done, and there was a crunched rear quarter once, (no insurance claim). I'd likely lose the multi car discount, have issue with the umbrella policy and with no garage......Admittedly the S is Rick's daily driver, though it's not driven as much as in the past. Maybe he just has to be careful and drive slow! .

Yeah you will have piece of mind with your current insurance co if something happens to it you don't have to worry about any restrictions as to how you use the car. I would suggest keep up the conversation with your agent and see if they will give you some kind of agreed value.

Lainey, did you actually call Hagerty? I wasn't aware that a garage was a big issue? Maybe it is. Nothing beats stated value. You state the value, not them. We use to have everything bundled with a local agent. Now we just have two items - wife's car and umbrella. There was no big change when we pull the other things out. Tell the agent you are pulling things out and force them to give to a quote.

Hmm...I've been with them for a month short of 54 years. It has not been accident free at all. I've had three total losses. My daily drivers were twice rear-ended for total loss and I totaled my first S2000. I thought that my settlements on the rear-enders were more than adequate. With the S2000, it had seen something just short of 100 track days and thousands of laps. The front a-arms were pulling away from the chassis. I figured that I could sell it in 2004 for $8-9,000 if I was lucky. Allstate gave me about $11,000+ after my $1,000 deductible and let me have the car back for $0. I put it on a lift, tore it down and sold the parts on this site, locally and on eBay in less than 4 months for another $15,000±. So, I was a very, very happy camper. I bought my second S2000 used but with only 1,500 miles on it for $22,000 and put $4,000 of my left over parts sales towards it's first supercharger. So, I have had no issues with Allstate.

I had Grundy on my NSX, because it was a somewhat better value than Hagerty. When I spoke with Hagerty they required any vehicle covered under an agreed value policy to be stored in a locked garage. I think this was also the case with Grundy. I also had to demonstrate that I had a late model vehicle for use as a daily driver and I was limited in what kind of driving I could do with the NSX. However this was several years ago and I think there have been many changes in the industry since then. When I insured the old Accord with Hagerty it was done through my AllState agent and I don't recall there being a requirement for the Accord to be garaged, although it was and I may have been asked about this and simply have forgotten. I was not asked about a daily driver but I probably signed something that indicated the Accord would be used only for pleasure drives, shows, etc.

I just talked with a fellow MG owner who has 4 or 5 MGs insured with Grundy. He had a new (we all know new is not always better) condenser go bad on a trip to a meet last weekend. He had a terrible experience. Spent an hour on hold trying to get the ok to get a tow truck and then they hung up on him. They kept trying and to keep the story short - - he ended up calling a friend with a trailer to get him home. They were on the side of road (in a park) for 9 hours. A lot of the time was trying to determine what was wrong but he's is done with them and going with Hagerty.
