The video shows the install on an S without the famous radio "door". Has anyone found instructions of how to remove the door then get to the back of the radio?
Hmmmm, I will have to look around.
Click Me

This is a link to Rick's, for the leather console cover install. One of the steps is to remove the radio door.

Basically you have to open the door, grab it closer to the lower hinge on both sides, and give it a tug. Once the bottom is loose, you'll need to use a slotted screwdriver to reach up through the vents to release a couple clips and wiggle it free. Voila, no more radio door.

Clearance is made easier by removing the shiftknob. Wrap the threads with tape so as not to scratch the radio door.

....I guess you don't really need that link now

After that the radio is held in place with a couple philips head screws on each side. It'll just slide right out afterwards to expose the back/harness.

I installed this one in the trunk. I just plugs into the cd player/satellite harness and you are good to go. I did order the extension cable from USA Spec once I got the unit so I could route the cable from the trunk to the drivers area. I works great with the iPod Nano and I can use the dash controls for volume and to change songs.

I finally find a solution to this problem. I was at Target, not even looking for this, and found this FM transmitter from Scosche. It costs only $42 and does the job. Charges the iPod while connected too. They also have a connector for the iPhone to play tunes thru it as well. One day and so far no complaints. It does not protrude very far at all from the power jack and doesn't interfere with the elbow while driving. That was the biggest problem I had with the other brands.

If you're looking for an easy, cheap solution, check this out.

I just finished setting up my Alpine so that I can now plug it into my Garmin 660 and get the mp3 music and directions over the stereo. I had used the FM transmitter but when playing music would frequently get background noise and then had to look for new stations.

Yeah that's one of the downsides of this cheap solution, particularly on long trips.
