What did I say on the "Dodgers Fan" thread about the baseball gods???? I even behaved and didn't gloat about my Padres success. Well Trevor blows a save in the last of the 9th with 2 out. Then the next inning they score by running totally around the catcher when the throw beat the runner by 3 steps!!! Exactly how WIDE is the basepath anyway (rhetorical question)? The catcher was fully laid out diving toward the dugout trying to apply the tag!! Geez, he even managed to put the tag on.....and had the ball in his other (bare) hand.

Chalk one up to the baseball gods. Blast them!!!

Still in 1st though. Yeehaw!

I'm one of them. I am a met fan. Thats why I know the collapse is coming. Its the natural order of things.
Unless they run into a team even more prone to collapse? [cough]1986[/cough]

The NL West race will go down to the wire. Nothing against the Pads (Tony Gwynn is one of my all-time favs and that new stadium looks awesome!) but Kevin Towers is an, well, a*s! I don't recall exactly what he said but he had some unkind words about the Dodger organization. Now that I find out Mr. Moneyball is helping the Pads out. Good luck with that

We've had Kevin Towers (GM) for a while now, but Sandy Alderson (CEO with nearly carte blanche power) has pretty much taken over his role and comes with a very good track record with making Oakland a consistent World Series contender. Besides, the Pads have done better in the past few years then I have witnessed since the days of Randy Jones, Rollie Fingers, Gaylord Perry, Ozzie Smith.....I could go on.

Even our 2 World Series teams ('84 & '96) were one year wonders. We put up 5 losing seasons in a row after '98. We have been much more consistent as of late.

The NL West remains one of the most competitve divisions in baseball. There are only 6 teams in all of the NL over .500 and the West has 3 of them.

-Go Padres

I still think that series was fixed. There's no other way to explain it.

WOOHOO!! Nats swept the Giants to win their sixth straight game. Wow...I'm really looking forward to the last game of the season Oct 1 against the Mets. Have great seats along the third base line.

Looks like the boys in Blue are taking out their frustrations on the Nats...

No worries MsPerky, we'll probably lose the next two.

This week the Ms traded Shin Soo Choo to the Indians for Ben Brassard. Last night both teams met, and the winning (only!) run was a solo homer by Choo. Tonight the Ms won in a close game, and Brassard hit a homer.

Ah, the trade deadline does make for some stories, doesn't it?

The Ms have a kid pitching right now who is an incredible story. A month ago he was promoted to AA. Yup AA. Then after only about a month up there, he was promoted to AAA. But before he could even show up in the clubhouse, he was sent to the big club. He now has about 10 innings with the Ms, all scoreless, with at least three times that he got out of bases-loaded situations with less than two outs. Whatever else happens, this Mark Lowe kid will never forget how his big-league career started.
