Default Juicing?

Yesterday I had a consultation with my physician to go over the myriad of medical tests she's been having me do (believe me . . . she reallllly had to pressure me. I can't even sign on to my instant messenger anymore because she jumps me about my tests. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PHYSICIAN YOUR IM ADDY) . Anyway, the good news is that my heart looks great, my lungs are great and I do not have Lyme's disease or several other nasty little buggers. The bad news is that once again I have one of those stinking opportunistic bugs that hits when you're immune systems is a bit down. There is no treatment or cure so I've got to "rest", eat well and take care of myself (as if). HENCE I've decided to take a proactive approach. I'll be getting Vitamin B-12 injections on my physician's advice (I'll learn to do it myself I think). I'll be juicing it up with fresh organic fruits and veggies several times a day. I'll be saying so long to chicken and most meats except lean beef once a week. I'll be eating eggs 3 times a week and I'll be eating some organic cheeses. I went out today with my poor little +1 in tow and bought a fancy masticating juicer (sounds nasty, doesn't it), a zillion dollars worth of fresh fruits and veggies and I've concocted some foul looking but great tasting meals in a glass. Do any of you juice? Has it been of benefit to you?? Recipes anyone????? Oh, believe it or not at my advanced age I've contracted mono and I haven't been kissing anyone. What a bummer.

Have you tried asking Barry Bonds for advice? I hear he's been known to do some juicing.

Not exactly the kind I had in mind.

BUMMER,
I don't "juice" in the way you mean, I prefer all the fiber as well as the juice.
One of my BP meds pulls salt out of my system, so it's a banana, some soy milk, and what I call a shake no bake meals like Met Rx in the blender in the AM, now, and I cook with lots of fresh garlic.

Sorry you've not felt well, Val. Glad it's nothing life threatening.

I've no experience with the kind of diet you describe and hope to never try it either.

I eat pretty well, but what you've listed sounds way too healthy for me. I'd never last.

Hope you feel better soon.

^^ We've been eating healthy for years, but I guess just not enough veggies and fruit since a lot of my tests results showed too little of various minerals, etc. Using the juice extractor is primarily for supplementation. I just have decreased energy levels and feel fatigued much of the time, run a low grade fever and just feel blahhh. I'm sure this too will pass. After I juice it up on all these fruits and veggies for a while I'll probably leap tall buildings in a single bound.

I take a multivitamin and extra Vitamin C and calcium every day, but never have tried juicing. It can't hurt I suppose. Do the peels go in, too? I would think that would be better, since they say the peel has most of the nutrients. Sorry you have mono. I think a long visit down to SC is in order. You have one planned, don't you???

I've never tried the juicing either, but have friends that do. We don't eat too badly, but my real problem is coming up with interesting vegetable dishes -- besides just steaming/boiling. The vegetable cookbooks I've read have way too much tofu (yuck) and/or butter/cream, etc. that defeats the healthy aspect. Anyone have a good source for good vegetable recipes. Oh, and Dean doesn't like rice and we try to avoid cheese, so that omits most casserole type dishes.

Sorry to go somewhat here, but thought as long as we're talking healthy eating I could get away with it.

Val, hope you're feeling better quickly!

^^ Healthy eating is a lot more difficult than people may think. I agree about all the tofu (it is not one of my faves). I enjoy vegetables and eat a lot of them and always have. My doctor thinks that butter in moderation is better than the artificial substitutes and also believes that the moderate consumption of cheese in place of meats is better as well. I'm trying to go as organic as possible and avoid additives, etc. wherever I can. I'm sure this is just another little bump in the road but I have no idea why I have a hard time ramping up my immunity. I've always been very active and very healthy. I guess I'm just a little run down. Howeverrrrr, its only temporary. Ohh, back to the juicing. I'm trying to find some good recipes for muffins or breads or something that I do with the pulp.
