Just for the fun of it.
People buy cars for lots of different reasons. Some buy for prestiege. Typically they buy "upscale" brands costing lots of money, cars that look expensive just sitting in the driveway.
Some buy cars that are practical. There is nothing like an SUV for that Saturday trip to Home Depot, or the mini van for taking the soccer team home.
Some buy cars that are economical. That hybrid that gets 60 miles to a gallon, or that economy car that runs for pennies. Smart and green, good cars.
Some buy cars for image. That sporty car says a lot about you. So does that red coupe that she drives.
Some buy cars for reliability. That import (you know which one) that will run trouble free for the next 15 years and 150,000 miles. Its good to know you'll be getting home that night.
But the luckiest people of all are those who buy cars just for the fun of it. We are those people. Our S isn't practical, or economical. It's reliable, but there are other cars that shout image louder and certainly there are other cars the bring more prestiege, but no car on the road is as much fun to drive and to own as our S2000. You don't measure it in miles per gallon, you measure it in smiles per gallon. And today when smiles are so hard to come by, all we need to do is to push the start button.
I'm especially lucky. I own an S2000 and I just bought a Civic Si. My Si, while not an S2000, is the most fun car I've ever owned with a hard top. It isn't prestigious, most people just think of it as a Civic. It does nothing for my image, and it really isn't very economical, but it is fun. This week I've had it on the road and driving it is second only to our S.
I think we are the luckiest car buyers of all. We own cars that are just for the fun of it. Do you agree?
