Dean, what your thoughts on the old town line of kayaks? Being a fellow mainer im sure you have experience with them.

I'm not the resident expert. I've only been at this kayaking stuff for about a month or so.

I remember Old Town canoes which had, and still have, an excellent reputation, but I don't have any experience with OT kayaks. Their rotomolded polyethylene recreational/fishing kayaks seem to be very popular and the prices aren't too bad either.

It must have been an unusually narrow SOT. Most of them are so wide and stable that people can stand up in them and fish.
probably a little shy of 2 ft if my memory serves correctly, probably 20 inches or so.

That is extremely narrow for a SOT. Most of the recreational SOTs run in the 26 to 34 inch width range. I bet you'd feel differently about them if you tried a Native Watercraft fishing/recreational SOT like the Native Ultimate: Native Watercraft

Our Eddyline Equinoxes. I love mine! I didn't even get freaked when we were paddling and the gators were basically on the same level as we were! That's a BIG move forward for me!

^Those are very nice. I don't think I can handle the gators. I probably would be scared to death.

I bought a 'Clear Blue Hawaii' tandem inflatable (with a clear bottom) which fits easily in the trunk of the S.

It's extremely stable with (very comfortable seats) though a lot more work than a hardshell to paddle in any kind of wind. I'm very happy with it though. We'll probably buy a hardshell so either of us can go out alone.

Here it is with Jillian's Grandfather (he's 98 and still going strong)

Here's jillian communing with a manatee

I had a big gator go underneath me while out by myself fishing. Somewhat spooky with the clear bottom.
