Default Luggage Rack

Want to do some weekend traveling. If I take my golf clubs the wife can't take
any clothes. I tell her this is not a problem but she insists. So, I've been looking at boot racks and have found two that look
like they may work. Has anybody had any experience with this situation.

I never pack lightly. Thankfully, Rick does not golf. I had thought we would not have enough room in the "S" for more than a weekend away, but we found a soft sided bag that fits in the well of the trunk and we still have plenty of room.............but not for golf clubs.

We had looked at racks (similar to the ones in your link) in the event that we found it difficult to bring my "required" stuff. , but found it was not needed.

I don't know of anyone who has used one. Hopefully someone out there can share some information with you.

I need to find that thread we had on packing the trunk. It had very good ideas in it. So no need for a rack!

Even with golf clubs?

We manage to fit a large duffle, a small duffle, a small cooler and two beach chairs in bags in the trunk.

for the trunk space.

Back in the 1970s I had a luggage rack for my MGB and for my TR-6. They worked well. I never had a problem either of them. As a matter of fact the luggage rack might've been the only thing that worked properly on my TR-6.

That said, I don't know if I could bring myself to put one on my S.

Ship the golf clubs via UPS or FedEx. Not as expensive as you'd think and your ego will arrive intact since you won't have to deal with the insults from other motorists!

I'm having trouble with the idea of a rack too. I like the shipping idea. Good point about the insults. That's why I posted here and not out in the real world. Those guys would show no mercy.

Thanks for the input

Tell your wife you'll leave your golf clubs behind if she leaves her clothes behind.

You wouldn't have time to golf anyway if she took you up on the offer.

Interesting. I have not seen either of those racks before. When the car first came out there was a couple different companies that came out with racks but I have never seen any in use. For me to buy something like that, I would have to see it, feel it, etc. That's just me.

We have used trunk racks for 30+ years on our MGAs because we love to travel in our sports cars. If I find one I like for the S2000 I would buy it, just to have one if and when we needed it.

Here's three ideas on racks:

1. Buy the removable type and that way you can remove it when not in use. The main concern with this type is that evenutally it will leave marks and/or scratches on the trunk lid.

2. Buy a permanent type. As I recall I have not seen any of these listed for an S2000 but there be some. With this type you have two options. First to leave it on the car all the time, or secondly, to buy a spare trunk lid to mount it on and swap lids when needed. I have friend who does this with a concours MGA. This allows him to show the car without the rack.

3. Don't buy one. If you have a fixed destination such as a golf resort that you are heading off to, pack up your clothes and ship them in advance via FedEx or whatever. I have several MG friends who have done this over the years when heading to a national meet. When it's over they repack the dirty clothes and send them home the same way.

If you do buy one, please let us know what brand and how it works.
