I'm really surprised how many on here are like me and don't play the game.

My ex played golf quite a bit. Unfortunately, he did not have the temperament for it. The Latin thing. Broke a number of clubs.

Or is it the parents of those watching to explain the the differences between the start athlete and the person they are otherwise?

I've played pretty much all my adult life, although I have not swung a club in anger (or any other state of mind) for over a year now. I was never very good, usually shooting in the high 90s and low 100s. But I almost always enjoyed playing thanks to three things: the company of others in my group, spending time outdoors, and beer.

These days i play pool in an APA league. It isn't outdoors but it checks the other boxes, and I am better at pool than I ever was at golf. That's a pretty low bar but my league ranking puts me just a tad above average while I never even bothered to maintain a formal handicap in golf.

well I can offer a slightly different perspective.
First I love the game. it provides a wonderful intellectual diversion and a good look in the mirror.
The great Bobby Jones once said, golf is a game played on the 5 inch fairway between the ears.
And speaking of Bobby Jones, the course he created is rather special.
especially when viewed firsthand.

Mark Twain said "Golf is a good walk spoiled". I play in Naples with a friend when we go down there for a couple of months. I rent clubs from the course as they take up too much room in the SUV. My bike goes down but not the clubs.

Used to try to play mainly for business. Only game where you can play more and get worse.

A few beers and some friends is the only way. Otherwise, I can be frustrated and pissed without leaving home.

But if one has tried the game you can appreciate what the Pros do.

" they play a game which I am not familiar with" ( or something like that")
