Motoring part II
I always keep a scarf in my trunk, a pair of fleece gloves and a hat. I keep my leather jacket handy, and my sunglasses are always in the glovebox. Cold weather top down driving is one of the best types of motoring, and you need to be prepared for when the conditions are right.
Motoring is a very special form of driving. It is the drive to nowhere, going for the sake of going. It is when getting there is more fun than being there. Cold weather motoring is a very special form of motoring. It is when you are bundled up against the elements, the heater is up, the top is down and the cockpit feels just a little more cozy than it did in the summer. The colder it gets, the better it is.
My first cold weather experiences came long ago when I was in college. I had a motorcycle and I used it to commute 35 miles to and 35 miles from college in 1970/1971. Those were some of the coldest miles I can remember, but they were exhilarating too. That wasn

I took a 150+ mile drive today. There was not a cloud in the sky and the air was cool but the sun was warm.
I drove part of the route that we drove during the No VA Run back in Oct.
It was a beautiful day and I did not even push it a bit. Just tooled along at about 15 - 20 MPH over on some really nice back country roads in the horse country of Virginia out around Middleburg.

I have not done any this winter but I can certainly relate.
My dress of choice has always been a coat with a hood. Unlike the S2000, MGs as you know get a lot more backdraft up one's neck and I started using them there. Also, a hood protects the ears well. This never bothered me in the old days but these days too much cold with unprotected ears and I'm asking for a ear ache. But with ear protection and gloves, it's a wonderful experience and makes one feel like a bi-wing fighter pilot against the elements. . . although the S certainly does a fine job of offering lots more protection than anything from Abingdon ever did.

Rob, this in reply to your old age question. I see why you woke up in pain
Are you crazy
Your body is telling you that you are not as young as you feel. When I first got the car in October 02 I drove with the top down, heat on, adrenaline pumping and I did not feel cold. Ask me now and I'll tell you a different story. I guess the novelty has finally worn off

Actually, the cold weather motoring makes me feel young, like a kid again. The aches and pains started before I went for the drive.
