Lainey, they don't hurt. They are in your face, though. It's pain that I'm a baby about. I had gas, once, at the dentist. I have a good one now though, and can handle a cleaning, sober.

At first glance I thought you were talking about gas pains that you'd experienced. I was thinking, poor dentist.

No MRI's don't hurt, it's the confines of it that had me concerned.

It's not so much the fear of pain that gets me, it's the whole medical environment, that gets my anxiety level going, and I didn't want the anxiety level on the high side, when I was stuck in the MRI tube.

It's confirmed. I'm still an MRI . Close spaces and being strapped up don't work if you have a bit of claustrophobia. I had the MRI on Monday on my "good" shoulder I thought I had done well, only had one reminder not to move, but the test seemed endless. They were running late and the valium was wearing off. I was whipped when I got out of there.

Anyway, they called me yesterday to tell me they need to re-do the entire test. Makes no sense to me as I'm sure not all images were poor, and it wasn't like I was dancing in that tube. I have the films, one or two shots might be unclear..

I know the doc does not really care about the radiology report. He reads the films himself. I've got a call into him to find out if we can get the films up to him, maybe he could review them and see what he needs to see. Maybe I won't have to repeat the test.

Otherwise, bring on the valium. I don't care if they have to pour me into the tube.

You get the badge of courage. I'm guessing claustrophobia is not an issue for you...or maybe being tied up works for you???

I don't care about the noise. They give headphones with music.

Not fun but easily done because you know it can clear things up.

with not fun

for the easily done part (but that's me) I'd rather have teeth drilled

with can clear things up.

I KNOW something is not right in there. It's been five months now. Even if the MRI is inconclusive, I'd bet $ that I'm looking at least at scope surgery, and that's OK. Just need to move on....

FWIW, Just spoke to the MRI place. The reason for the request for a repeat test is that the first is inconclusive. Radiologist can't make a diagnosis with existing film. That's OK. I know the surgeon reads the MRI's himself. He may see something on his own.

A woman at the doc's office says I'm welcome to keep my next week's appointment and bring the films I have. If they are not to the doc's liking, I'll do what he suggests, another MRI, or a procedure to actually see what's going on, but I'd rather it be his call, not the radiologist's as to if I need another MRI....nothing against the radiologist.

Unless the nurse in the doc's office calls to tell there is a different opinion, I'm skipping the trip to the MRI center tonight.

I hope your current MRI is good enough for your doctor, Lainey.

My hand/arm doctor didn't even care if I had an MRI. He knew what was wrong without it. Can't straighten thumb = ruptured tendon. The RA lump was a big clue, too. I asked for it because I was in denial that I'd need surgery. Never did before. What's with this getting old thing and needing to be fixed?

Hey, David, how's your surgery recovery progressing?
