We are not immune either my sisters mother in law was murdered last week in her home 82 years old by a 21 year old who was on probation for a previous home invasion.

So horrible.
That is so sad to hear. These thugs are in and out of jail all of the time. We need stiffer sentences for these habitual criminals.

Agreed I know my nephews and their cousins would have loved to have a chat with the "accused"

Why do they think he felt he had to kill a lady that old?

Dave, a lady who was 85 years old at the time was raped and beaten by a young thug who broke into her house in our community. Age is apparently not important to someone intent on crime. That poor little lady survived her brutal injuries and testified in court about what she endured. It was a heartbreaking event.

Yes, someone who is bent on committing a crime probably isn't going to consider the age of the victim. As for my area (DC), it has always had its gun and other violence, but this year so far has been particularly bad. I feel sorry for the new mayor who has to deal with it. The police chief has come under fire, too, from the police union, but I like her.

Just saw a stat that said Baltimore just suffered its 300th homicide of the year. Wow...the city has been on a downward spiral since the Freddie Gray incident.

I grew up in Baltimore. We visit the Inner Harbor and take in a O's game occasionally but we make sure there are lots of people around. Outside of this area is no mans land.

As a comparison Toronto which is roughly the same size as Chicago has Around 50-60 per year. My sisters Mother in law was #44

UPDATE The funeral was yesterday with 100+ in attendance:-) I also have learned that the "Accused " has not been received with open arms at his place in incarceration. Or maybe he was and that is the issue :-)

I just read on the Chicago Trib's website that in 2015 Chicago has had 432 murders and last year from Jan 1 to Dec 31 they had 432. Horrifying!
