California’s largest utility suffered its steepest stock plunge in 16 years Wednesday. Who said utilities are always a safe investment!

The fire is about 40 miles north of my house. I overlook a valley to the east; you cannot see the other side. The smoke is everywhere and many outdoor events are cancelled. The Wal Mart parking lot is overflowing; many new homeless are living there in donated tents and motorhomes. I have driven through the areas that burned in Sonoma county (a home we almost purchased 25 years ago burned in Glenn Ellen) but this seems apocalyptic.
My neighbors have difficulty obtaining insurance. Thankfully USAA has kept me. They sent out a fire expert to go over the property and I took all the suggestions to heart. Every couple years my neighbor (fire Captain) and I hire a dozer to clear our 10 acres and burn the piles before the fire season begins.

Yikes...that is close. USAA is the best. But a very sad situation...pictures of the burned and abandoned pets were just awful.

My niece's husband's grandparents live in the vicinity of the Camp Fire. They have lost their home.
The grandfather is 99 years old, and he was in the hospital and was evacuated, along with a few other patients, by a nurse in her car. They drove 3 hours to get out of the area of the fire. My niece doesn't know why he was in the hospital. She thinks it was because he had been falling a lot recently, and had broken a hip.
The grandmother is 97 years old, and they have not heard from her. A friend (who also lost her home) was taking the grandmother to Chico. They have not heard about the grandmother, so they don't know if she is safe or not.
The grandfather does not yet know that they have lost their home, nor that his wife is missing.
A very sad situation.
