My favorite nuts are the Vintage nuts that still love sports cars!

I've liked black walnuts since I was a kid, but couldn't get them very often since then. Now my daughter in the Smoky Mountains has a tree in her front yard - yumm! The nuts fall on the driveway, and tires grind off the hulls. The shells, though, are nearly indestuctible - I crack them in a vise.

My mom used to have a very large Black Walnut tree in her backyard, as a kid we used to eat them all the time. Like you say opening them can be a challenge. As a kid we used to use hammers and rocks! She finally had it taken down about 10 yrs ago as it was getting way too old.

We used to gather them in the woods, soak the husks off, and crack them in a vise, too, when I was growing up. They made great additions to various things my mother used to bake. HPH

Still no takers on the difference between "Beer Nuts" and "Deer Nuts"?

If you insist - beer nuts are under a dollar, deer nuts are under a buck.
