This one is male, comes from Quebec! He is banded I guess has recovered from a previous injury. He hangs out at a Wildlife Refuge in RI near the ocean. Pics weren't difficult. He was mostly sitting on the roof of the visitors center until he spotted his next meal/snack. I've got a ton of pics to go through, just a couple of him in flight and a few like the one about were the lucky shots. Most of them were just of him sitting on a roof. Still, it's been on my bucket list to photograph one of these creatures. I bought Rick lunch afterwards. Gotta pay my dues.

A really nice capture, Lainey. I live on a street named "Snowy Owl Drive" and have never seen one of the creatures. Wish that I could.

We get big owls. 15-20" tall. in the woods around the house.
Never have quite managed to get a good pic since it's always twilight.
But loud, oh my goodness.

A couple more of my pal snowy. Next up a bald eagle!
Had to do a fair amount of cropping on some. He was mostly up on the roof of the visitors' center. I did catch him in flight. Not perfect, but I'll share anyway. What a cool creature!

When I lived in Acton, CA we had a eucalyptus tree that ravens made a nest in before owls took it over and had owlets. The owls took it over in Jan 2006 and the last owlet was out of the nest in April 2006. I learned a lot about them watching the nest. These facts back up what I noticed.

^5-25-2004. Raven's nest when they had one offspring that they seemed to push out of the nest.

^5-31-2004. One baby.

^5-24-2005.The next spring they had three offspring but my files were ruined.

^1-09-2006. The owls took the nest in January 2006.

^4-18-2006.

^4-28-2006.

^4-28-2006. This one could not fly and just hopped himself into a corner of chain link fence that he couldn't get out of.

^4-28-2006. My next door neighbor, Rod, came to rescue it. Rod was a macaw guy.

^4-28-2006. Rod and his wife found a bird rescue that would take care of the owl, in case it had a wing problem so they put it in a cardboard box and I drove it there.

^4-17-2006. Spring time hummers in Acton. Just because.

Patty if the owl made any sounds, I didn't hear it. We walk in the woods, and I look for owls no luck. Cool that you had them so close to you.
