One Small Step Closer To
In the ever more frenzied rush to "protect the children" from the evils of drug use, comes this new bill winding its way through the House. Now you can be arrested and sent to prison without ever having used drugs or come into contact with them. All you have to do is know that someone *else* is using drugs and fail to snitch on them.
If you hear that your next door neighbor occasionally smokes some pot and you don't go to the cops and rat him out, you can be charged and sent to prison for "no less than two and no more than ten years".
Lovely, huh? This sounds like good old Nazi Germany. "Inform on your friends and family for the good of the Reich!" Only in this case, it's "Inform on your friends and family to protect the children!"
H.R. 1528:
SEC. 425. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person who witnesses or learns of a violation of sections 416(b)(2), 417, 418, 419, 420, 424, or 426 to fail to report the offense to law enforcement officials within 24 hours of witnessing or learning of the violation and thereafter provide full assistance in the investigation, apprehension,
and prosecution of the person violating paragraph (a).

How funny. Just today the German courts struck down the "Ethics Rules" that Walmart tried to force on its German employees, which included (aside from forbidding love/sexual relationships among the employees) mandatory snitching on others that were violating said "Ethics Rules".

Remember when children were made into national heros for turning in parents who made anti-communist statements in the Soviet Union? We've come a long way, haven't we?
I hope this thing is a hoax.

Here is a somewhat related article from today's NY Times. Not exactly the same, but look at what is happening.
