Talking The Oregon Thread....

Kathy and I are touring Oregon...with the idea of potential future relocation

We started out with 3 days (high school mini-reunion) in Newport on the coast, followed by a tour from Pacific City to the north and over-nighted in Florence at the mid-coast. The last 50 miles heading south were extreme scenic overload....road hugging the coast. Driftwood, roaring surf, rocky overlooks, lighthouses....it's all here.

Only one S2000 sighted thus far....in Corvallis (inland in the Williamette Valley). Our rental car is a PT Cruiser Chrysler ragtop.....bright blue. It's a lot of fun....2.4 turbo....has enough zoot to pass all of the logging trucks.

Today we'll drive a leisurely 100~ miles to Brookings on the southern coast.....almost into CA. This is the banana belt town of OR.....warm and sunny year-around. Then we'll head inland to Medford. We'll be here for another 6 days....returning next Sunday might on the red-eye

How about you?

Anyone else have any recollections of the Oregon coast......or the coast of Washington? It's a beautiful part of the country

We've never been in that neck of the woods. Take lots of pics for us!

I'm still considering a vacation home in Cannon Beach. I like the area very much, plus it's in proximity to Portland.

Enjoy your trip

I think all the lumber from the northwest that Japan has not bought yet is strewn along the Washington coast - off the Olympic Peninsula.

Was in that state last year and had a great time sampling the Pinot Noirs. Saw Howard Huges Spruce Goose, Crater Lake, stayed in the lodge which still had snow in June and stayed at a cool chain of hotels called McMenamins.

Posted this in the weather thread...

Lovely area...my AZ cousin has a beautiful Craftsman style second home (actually, third!) in Cannon Beach - right on the water. Really nice. Need to get back there!

I grew up in Oregon near Portland. Dad was born in Condon, Mom in Bay City. Florence averages over a 100 inches of rain a year. If I was going to move back there, it would be around Condon. Great roads, not much rain/snow and sparsely populated.

We have vacationed in Bandon, Oregon in a rental house before. Jerry, you passed right by Bandon on your way south. What I loved was that is was August and chilly. The beach was even cold. We could hear the fog horn from the north at night and I found it soothing to sleep by.

BTW, we chose Bandon because the couple who sold us our 30 acres in Kennedy Meadows, and still own 5 acres there, moved to Bandon from So Cal. We visited them.

We only got as far N as Pacific City.....also remote (and semi-affordable). Cannon Beach is great....Haystack Rock and all....but pretty crowded for us
