The Oregon Thread....
Dear Jerry, after following your travels around the globe and watching you learn to post pictures, I'm thinking you may have a future as a travel writer/editor/photographer/critic/trier-outter of various places, down the road. If you can do this for us, surely you can do it for a magazine like "Travel and Leisure" (although they may have to wait a bit for the pictures
). Said all this to say how much I've enjoyed hearing about your travels throughout the years and it seems you and my girl are always going somewhere great (I love it). That goes for the other travelers who share here as well.
Now I guess we'll have to "pull a Patty" and drive (or fly) across country for the meets you'll host in a few years, eh?
Welcome back to now-reality anyway, buddy and keep hope alive for that relocation thingy!

My brother lived in Portland for a few years, but since he's a Marine Lifer and quite conservative, did not appreciate many facets of Oregon life. Glad you enjoyed it and glad you're back home safely. I'd probably love it since I'm into the coffee culture, etc., but +1 is stuck on Virginia and since I'm stuck on +1, this is where I'll stay.
As much as we dislike the MA winters, we've never given relocation much thought. We're many years away from retirement, and then there is the issue of grandchildren and family, most of whom live nearby.
Right now we need to be where they are.
We appreciate Jerry and Kathy checking out all the areas for us. It will help narrow our selection down when the times comes, and we've had enough of MA and winter.

As long as we're healthy and
solvent, we'll visit for a couple months in spring and again in fall each year.

Having the grandkids nearby plays an important part in my decision to move or not movae back to Texas. I'm especially sensitive to this because my kids grew up overseas and missed that grandparent thing except for occasional visits back home. I think they missed something in the process so I want Livvy to have her grandma within driving distance, especially while she's little.
Not too close to have to do too much babysitting.
I think grandparents are important. I only had one grandfather and he didn't care about the grandkid thing. We have thoughly enjoyed the grandparent thing, and I think the extra attention shows up in many ways. Maybe it's because Allison was doted on by her parents,us, and another woman who cared for her two days a week. Her speech has been clear since she was two, and her ability with puzzles has amazed us. I see a big difference between Ally and her cousin. Her cousin has no grandparents nearby (daughter in law's parents live in Portugal, visit once a year) and not much of a support group. She's four and I had a hard time understanding her at times, on Saturday.
I know it's not right to compare kids, but you can't help it sometimes..............
