Default Patch from Dad's uniform

I just saw an avatar in another forum. It looked very much like this:

I have posted asking the member what it signified. As far as I can tell the member is in the armed forces.

I'm pretty sure this patch was from my Dad's days in the Army Air Force in WWII.

Do any of you know the significance? Branch of service, perhaps, division?

I'd like to know. Can't ask Dad, he's gone.

The +1 is guessing it's Army Air Corps from WWII.

Thanks, Just a general patch, no division or anything like that?

This is what I saw that caught my attention.

I knew I had something quite similar from my Dad.

It appears to be 8th Air Force...although the wings are a bit different. See this page at the bottom:

I think it is the 8th Air Force.

Let's see if I can figure out how to post a link...

Lainey,

Google is your friend. That's the 8th AAF in WWII. Not sure what the duck is signifying, though lots of times it was used to signify troop carrying squadrons. However, the 8th was a strategic unit...

If you use the link below and post up the pic, I bet someone can nail it more specifically.

Here is a very extensive website, Lainey.

Eighth Air Force

There are even photos on the site. Wouldn't that be neat if you found something about your Dad on the site?

(Hey, maybe I better get registered under my own name.)
