You cannot stop a team from scooping up signals, the league just doesnt want it to be as blatant as video taping for later analysis. It is just as easy to have someone on the sidelines manually documenting them, which is not against the league rules.

A forfeit should not occur due to the nature of the rule, which can be bent legally as I noted above.

Well it seems fair to me. Bill 500K, Team 250K anf either the 1sr round pick (if they make the playoffs, which they will) or the second and third if they don't.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I think this was a good decision from the NFL. I imagine other coaches will think twice about doing something like this from now on.

As a former Clevelander, this is vintage Belichick. Let's see how he mumbles his way throught this one. Great tactician, but a social moron.

Some of you have said that all the teams spy. I don't believe it. I can't imagine a Tony Dungy team spying. The man has more Honor than someone like a Belichick or a Bonds. Saying everyone is doing it or questioning if it gives you a competitive edge is not the point; the point is he is cheat and now the world knows it.

It isn't spying. They aren't sneaking into offices late and night and stealing the playbook, they are just watching and interpreting signals from the coaches and the resulting action on the field. THAT is legal. It is only illegal to do it with a video camera. That's why hecash and I said it was a dumb rule violation with very limited potential gain.

Ok, stealing signs is part of the game. Knowingly breaking the rules after being told not to do it is not.

Tell it to a defensive player who ends up looking stupid, or a wide receiver who is expecting single cover and gets greeted by a strong safety who is not supposed to be there, or a running back expecting an opening and finding Shawnee Merriman in the hole.
Cheating is cheating. The paying fans deserve better.
