I have one TV in my house. It's an almost 20-yr-old 26" regular old cathode ray tube TV. It's hooked up to my home entertainment A/V system -- all of which is as old or older (except for the DVD player).

On the other hand, I have four PCs (for three monitors) plus the carcasses of a couple other PCs.

I guess it's clear where I spend my electronic entertainment dollar.
We have at least four (at last count) tvs in our home. None of them are digital and none of them are plasma or whatever. All of them are old-style and only one of them has a fairly large (35 in) screen. TV viewing is not really huge on our list of things we're especially fond of doing. I enjoy some of the newer scifi shows (Fringe, Sanctuary, Eureka) and occasionally we rent a movie. Most of the time if a tv is on, its on a news channel. We do have two computers and we enjoy music from time to time. Television is nice enough, but is not a priority for us. I finally broke down and got cable and high speed internet in the SC place. We have two tvs there and have the same priority for tv viewing there as we do here. When I'm there, more often than not, we just listen to NPR. Some day if I ever feel so inclined, I may like to get a flat screen of some kind, but it is not high on my list of wants.

My lovely wife had the same problem, so she forced me to take the 37" out of the living room and put it in the bedroom. Then she made made me go out and buy a brand new TV for the living room. I was forced to buy a new TV.
Astigmatism blows! Barb wears her contacts and laughs at my reluctance to do the same. Hell it's all I can do to put Visine in my eyes.

[QUOTE=zzziippyyy,Nov 14 2008, 01:13 PM] One more thing to consider, 1080P is useless to you if you are only going to watch broadcast television. As it is and will be for a long time only broadcast in 720p.

Direct Tv and Dish network broadcast HD in 720p and do a poor job at that.

Another difference between LCD and plasma displays is the screen surface. Plasma displays have a glossy surface while LCDs have a matte surface. If you have a bright room the glossy surface will mirror the objects in you room.
