I like the Civic otherwise, but the CVT is a POS! And Honda is not generally known for giving you a tranny choice. I bought a 2017 Civic with a CVT; no longer own it.

Jim,

Had you bought the Si version with a 6 speed manual (only transmission available on the Si) you'd love the car.

I had a 2016 Civic Touring with the CVT, I actually didn't mind the tranny at all, it was far better than Honda's typical auto trannies IMO but I can see how people who prefer 3 pedal cars wouldn't like it. My only real complaint with the Civic was the oil dilution issue, my oil levels would grow so quickly that I would need to drain the oil manually 1/2 way through the recommended oil change interval as it would get so high to potentially cause issues. No idea what that was doing to long term reliability when an oil sump has that much water and fuel in the oil. I had no faith in Honda's 1 year warranty extension. I found it had a tendency to slide a bit in winter conditions and I sold it in favour of a Subaru WRX, the AWD is pretty good and offers a better balance for winter use, fuel dilution issues are non-existent , my oil stays clean for 10k kms.

I had an '08 SI that I really liked until the rust started to show up.
