^^ I believe that is called "selective hearing". I've noticed Jim suffers from that malady as well. He also sighs heavily and often leaves the room afterward . . . wonder what that's all about.
Just a guess but in your case you probably said or did something beneath you.

Since I no longer hear or understand anything anymore, I just smile politely and nod at what I hope is the appropriate time.

My brother in law called and said he has lost all hearing in his left ear. He also said that he sees a dark line in his left eye. He has appointment with the ear, nose, and throat specialist. He just got up from bed and this happens. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Did this just come on suddenly?

When is his appointment with the ENT specialist?

I am wondering if a trip to the ER might be a wise idea. Could these possibly be symptoms of a stroke?

I hope that someone else with some medical knowledge sees this and can give you a better answer.

^ sounds like a detached retina. Did he suffer a head injury recently. Or in the past year? Even one that he would shrug off as nothing?

I had a friend that crashed his motorcycle 2 years ago all of a sudden he woke up with a detached retina the Drs. pin pointed it back to a concealed injury from that crash.

He has an appoinment tomorrow. Whoever he called advised that there is nothing that can be done until they have had a CT Scan. They also tell him that it is unlikely that they are connected.
