Good info, thanks. I will be replacing the old carpet with new, in a color/pattern that handles traffic/dirt better than the old.

We are still fans of carpeting. We enjoy playing with the dog on the floor, doing stretch exercises on the floor, etc.

Us too, carpet is a must for us in certain rooms. Wood for the dining room, ceramic tile in the kitchen & bathrooms.

I don't get the current rage for the vinyl flooring, it's modern day linoleum but with wood patterns that don't look like real wood.

I'm on the other side of the fence with carpeting. Not a fan. Fortunately for us, our home had hard wood floors when we bought it. The bedrooms had all been refinished. We replaced the living room and hallway carpeting twice, then I was done. We had the floor refinished and, for me, it was the best home improvement ever. It really brightened up the house. Area rugs are fine and are easily replaced. You also don't end up with the squished down carpeting in high traffic areas with the rest of the carpeting looking OK . We have tile in kitchen and bath.

When looking at the homes for sale, I see a lot of the vinyl planking. Can't say I'm a real fan. Some of the homes I see on line, have the hardwood floors in bedrooms and hallway and they install the vinyl planking in kitchen in bath, using the gray color which doesn't blend well with the more traditional hard wood floors. It just doesn't cut it for me. It appears to be a real mis-match. I'd opt for tile, but to each their own.

If I'm looking for a rental on vacation, I avoid places with lots of carpet. Who knows what's hiding in there.

The vinyl we used looks very close to wood. When we looked at the model home we both thought it was real wood. I like the look and the ease of cleaning.

With the exception of the two bathrooms our entire second floor is real wood flooring. It's fine for the three bedrooms and my art room but the hallway drives me nuts because of squeaks and I never found a way to stop it. Because it’s the second floor there is no access to the underside, so it has to be fixed from above. I covered the area with baby powder and taped down a hallway runner to help push it in. That did not solve anything. I know there are break off screw kits available but I’m not keen on trying that approach.

I like the squeaks in real wood floors. It use to let me know when the kids were sneaking in late!

None of the bedrooms squeak, just the hallway.

Our bedroom is done in 5/8" Koa wood. It rests on a rubber mat. No squeaks, no separations and it looks great.

I have wood flooring in parts of my Loveland house and it's a big reason I love this house. I love the look of wood. Bedrooms are carpet as I want them to be. I put in new carpet when I moved in in 2017.

I am having the deck repaired/tightened up and new railing put on it. I'm hiring the same company to insulate, drywall and paint the inside of my detached garage. I'm currently waiting for the electrician to come replace a bad breaker in the detached garage. Right now, I have a 100 foot extension cord plugged from the attached garage to the garage door opener in the detached garage so I can get the garage door open. I figure I'll be lucky if the deck railing it done before the first snow. The garage should go faster.

Oh, I'm going to purchase new lights for the garage. I don't need it to be super bright since I don't work out there. I just figured LED fixtures will be much brighter than the fluorescents hanging now. Any recommendations? I have LEDs in the attached garage but they went in in 2017 so there's probably been improvement in that department. I'll ask the electrician if he recommends anything when he gets here.
