I am with Emil. Number 3 has the reddish stain that matches the best to the cabinets.

Another vote for the lightest color. To be really honest, I like the color of the wood without the stain. Natural. But that's likely not what you want to hear. The Y has a hard wood floor in the studio. They stripped it down and brought it back to it's natural color I would love to do that with my floors. I don't have hardwood in the kitchen. Just living room and bedrooms.

From a color blind person, I vote to put a clear satin finish on the floor as is.

Special walnut - number 4, it has a light cinnamon tinge to it which I like.

^This is the stain brand that will be used.

^This is the sealer that will be used in three coats.

^2-29-2024. The first batch of stain samples. I was leaning towards Chestnut #5, but not thrilled with it. I wanted it a tad darker and warmer.

^3-1-2024. The second batch of stain samples. Yesterday, when Josh put down the first stain samples, he couldn't find Provincial. When I saw it (Provincial) on the floor this morning I loved it. If you compare it to Chestnut, the first one in this sample, it's a little redder like the cabinets and a little darker. When I was house hunting in California in 2008, after I was divorced and needed to move out of our Acton house, I really wanted wood floors but they just weren't out there. I settled for a nice house that wasn't what I really wanted. I was very happy to see more wood used in Colorado homes, when I was hunting in August of 2017. I instantly loved this house I found and was thrilled with the wood floor and cabinets. My preference was/is for a darker wood like my sister had in her Colorado Springs house. I think I'll be very happy with Provincial. I will have more work done on Saturday, and Monday. They will be finished on Monday or Tuesday.

Do you have to leave the house while the work is being done and to allow the floors to dry?

No but the stain will be very smelly and they said some people do leave the house. I'm not leaving the house with four cats in it.

I hope they don't stain the cats We had one of our cats walk through a paint tray once, and he left beautiful cat paw prints all over our floors lol.

How long will it take to dry? Will it be a PIA to not be in the area?

I'm not sure how I'll keep them out of the area while it's stained and drying except for the fact that they've all been hiding under the couches in the basement every day, anyway. This is day 4 and they're no where to be found but there's more sanding going on and the noise keeps them away. Talia, the Bengal, has gone up stairs and looked around though, I've been told.

An hour or two. I had hoped it was going to be stained by today since it's been in the 60s and I've had the windows open. Monday will be in the 40s.

^3-2-2024. I have no way to block the stairs to keep the cats in the basement. They can jump over anything I can think of.

I can lock the cats in a room! Where was my brain?
