This prompted me to research my car. Price check 5/20/09: Mint 2001 S2000, silver, 40k miles.

NADA:
clean trade-in: $13.6k
clean retail: $15.5k

Edmonds:
trade-in: $11.4k
private party sale: $12.7k
dealer sale: $14.2k

Kelly:
excellent condition: $12.1k

Auto Trader:
lists 1,074 S2000s for sale, ranging from $10k to $40k (new).

Bottom line: My car is approximately 8.5 years old and still worth 40% of the sticker price. Not many cars can say that.

I went to Kelly on mine.
Seems a little low given the condition but I guess demand is marginal right now.

$18,500.oo is less than I would expect to pay for one like mine.

I have been thinking of taking the S to my insurance agent and having all the added stuff placed on the coverage in case of an accident/theft. I know it wouldn't cover the cost of replacing all of the items, but it would help with some of it.
Better than that, take a lot of pictures of your car and the mods which will be much more accurate than having some agent or clerk try to do a documentation.

I just figured the wind gusts from those speedy S2000s sucked you sideways as they went by.

I checked my 04 on Nada and it was $15,525 for clean retail and $13,000 for trade in. That is not too bad. Of course it is irrelevant since I dont plan to trade or sell.

My '06 maxed out on trade at $16k, and that is what they gave me. HT value (if you have one) is simply not factored into a trade value - they gave me the same value with or without HT. Seems a bit silly, but that is the way it seems to be.

Having said that, they gave me max for a car that is pretty rock-chipped, needs a new windshield, and has "excess mileage" for it's age.
Maybe a 7/10. Possibly an 8/10.

My '02 quoted out from the services at $9995. I got significantly more for it than that Of course, that one was a 9+/10 condition car, and has a lot of extra bling. And, for an '02, it was "under mileage"
