Save the Drive-In
As a followup to the original post, just wondering if there are any drive-in theaters still open near you? We had one that closed about 3 or 4 years ago. The land was supposedly sold for development, but I drove by it the other day and the roadside sign, box office, projection building, and screen were still standing. Maybe there's still hope, though I doubt it, based on the fact that all theaters have to convert to digital projectors by the first of next year at a considerable cost. What a bummer!
Gene, we are in the planning stages for Michigan's 4th national MGA meet (we've done one every 10 years starting in 1985). One of the events I suggested was a drive-in. We have been trying to work in an evening for the drive-in theater for our tentative schedule for 2015..... it's an hour away from the host hotel. Last I heard the event coordinator has not been getting replies to his request for info from the site. Perhaps they are more interest in meeting the immediate upgrade, which we were not aware of. I did vote for them.
Gene, we have quite a few drive-ins around the Albany area. There have to be at least three to four operating facilities. We are blessed in that sense and hopefully they will make the transition to digital. Here is a link to drive-in movie theaters in New York: http://www.driveinmovie.com/NY/
to Honda for helping out.
Nor have I. I'm told at some the sound comes over the radio rather than a speaker. Since most MG'ers don't bother with installing radios (can't hear them anyways) we have been trying to get input from the drive-in we are considering, on what they use.

We had the very first drive in here in South Jersey. And now we have only a single screen about 45 mins. away.
Sad but I guess in order to have a movie screen in my pocket (phone) something else suffers.

We have a double screen drive-in within 10 miles of the house but we never go there.
On a side note, recently we went pass a drive-in near Lancaster, OH and cars were lined up at 4:00 in the afternoon. My son says that if you don't get there early you may not get in!

2 w/in a 20 minute drive. Shankweilers and Becky's. Becky's has 2 screens.
Becky's used to show XXX with "involved plots and witty dialog".
Uhm, the "fund" in that link isn't doing so well......
