Show us your pet!
^ thanks everyone. We have left him with the vet but the news is not good. They have him on oxygen to provide some relief, and we are returning at 6 pm to figure out the next step. We fear the worse as it appears his heart is failing. He was acting very normal , eating, drinking and moving around, he even had enough energy to harass his sister cat without issue. But his breathing became very laboured in the last 24 hours. It does not look good for our best friend. Update as things progress. Thanks for the well wishes.
Thanks for the thoughts. We were able to bring Hershey home last night. He is in some stage of heart failure, he has fluid around his heart and his heart has always been a bit enlarged ? We have him on medication. They have no idea how long he may live, but this will eventually kill him, so I expect to post up an RIP post at some point in the future. We don't want to put him to sleep yet, we brought him home so we can show him some more love before he leaves this world. He is still eating and drinking and moving around, but that can change at any time, he can also die if he gets too excited or scared. We don't think he is suffering, if he does start to suffer then we may have to make a hard decision.
Hershey has been the most amazing friend and cat we have ever had. I know when he dies we will have comfort knowing we gave him an amazing life. We found him as a kitten sleeping under our truck 10 years ago in North Carolina. He was dumped off and living in a bush beside a hotel we were staying at, he was 8 weeks old at the time. We were on our way to Florida and could not take pets to the condo we were going to for our family vacation. After staying in Florida for 2 weeks we said we would stop at the same hotel on the way home and if he was still hanging around we would bring him home with us. Sure enough 2 weeks later we stopped at the same hotel on the way home for a night. I went into the bush to find him and we got him to come out of hiding with some food. We snuck him into the hotel that night by stuffing him into my wife's purse, lol, and we fed him and gave him water to drink, he was starving and thirsty. He had many scratch marks from encounters with other animals or birds of prey. There were no homes in the area, so he was a feral kitten living in the bush. We stopped at a small grocery store in NC that evening to get cat supplies that we needed. They did not have a cat carrier but the cashier called her husband and he came to the store to give us a cat carrier, talk about small town hospitality eh ? It was all meant to happen that day, our son was very young at the time and he was just thrilled that we saved a kitten. We then drove home 800 miles and we smuggled him across the border into Canada without papers (our little WOP lol).
Every time we tell someone how we got our cat they tell us how great of a story it is. The day we first saw Hershey, we had visited the Hershey exhibit in Hershey PA that morning, so we decided to call him "Hershey". We love him so much, and we have made his life so much better than it ever would have been living in the bush.
