The US played the Euros today in the Solhiem Cup.
Same format as the men's Ryder Cup, first two days are two person teams and the last day is head to head singles match play.
Coming into today they were tied 8-8. If you like competition you can't ask for much more than that.
The competition stayed strong throughout the day. With 5 or so minutes to go it looked good for the US.
But then things swung the other way. The next to last match on the course was on the 18th green.
The last match settled on the 17th with the Euros tying it at 13 1/2 points.
If the remaining match if the US tied or won the hole, the US would retain the cup.
A long time veteran of women's golf, Suzanne Peterson, a controversial captains pick was the Euro contestant.
She had been away from golf for 2 years on maternity leave and really hadn't done anything in the two tournaments since her return.
But she has always been a ferocious competitor. Today was no different and she sank the winning putt, the last putt of the match to win it for the Euros.

And then,.... she announced her retirement from professional golf.
talk about going out on a good note.
