It looks like another clone is added to the Solstice/Skye family. The Opel GT is scheduled to debut in Germany Spring of 2007. Looks like a turbo Skye, and built in the same Delaware factory. See This Link.

I hope it works out well for GM but I can't help but to think of previous GM cars that everybody got excited about such as the Fiero 2m4.

That's when they were know as Generous Motors.

I watched and waited for years as the Fiero went from an idea and into production. The reason: I had a neighbor that worked at Pontiac and this was his dream car. He was so sure it was going to be a hit. There was a short time I did as well. I remember seeing one for the first time....... it was in my rear view mirror on Woodward Avenue in the Royal Oak/Birmingham area. This is an area north of Detroit that is very high rent and Ferrari, Porsche, etc. are not uncommon. I recall trying to tell from the Fiero front end what model Ferrari it was coming down on me.

As we all know now, it was no Ferrari. It was a shame GM couldn't have got that one right.

i havent seen one yet, but i read the prototype was "designed and built in four months". that in itself scares me. i know the srt-4 had a similar background and workmanship is a big issue with that car.

as for the pizza, i just make my gf hold it. just make sure you get extra toppings as girls like to pick them off in the car

That's true. Bob Lutz was looking for something to spark up the GM stage at the Detroit Auto Show. It was done as a "concept car" and was done essentially by one person. That's good. Committee concepts or production cars make too many compromises. Because it was an over whelming hit, they then had to figure out how to actually make it and keep the price within their target. That took much longer and it was an on - off - on again project because of the cost restraints.

Saw my 1st one a few minutes ago, it was a red one being put into the showroom of a local Pontiac dealer. I was surprised that it was smaller than the S, for some reason I thought they were closer to the same size. The larger tires/wheels on it are noticable but like others have said it didn't look the best with the top up, I'm sure they put it down once inside. Really didn't look bad for a $22k car.

What I like about the project is that at least they didn't try to save money by dumming the platform down to a live axle like Ford did with the new Mustang. The car appears to be remarkable given its hasty engineering and build.

I've got both cars. Moved up from a Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite!!

The 'S2K' is smaller than the Solstice, which is actually 1/2" narrower than a C6 and 1/2" taller.

The Solstice does not have the guts of a S, nor the bells and whistles.

I believe that both have a place in todays market, you have to remember that ~$12K+ USD makes the playing field different.

I have driven the Solstice ~7K miles and the S2K ~8k.

I want to sell my 2004 Suzuka.

Take care-Steve

I saw one parked today. It looked quite refreshing. I think this one will do well.
