Default Speeding Close Calls

You know what, I can't honestly think when I didn't drive over the speed limit. Just ask my wife who screams in my right ear!

But this thread is NOT about the times you got caught speeding. Its about stories when you broke the law and LUCKED out. But I know you can't help yourself, so you can toss in a story about the time you got caught.

Here's a couple to get you thinking.

I was doing 15 over in GA and wasn't paying attention. I looked in the side mirror I saw a GA state trooper beside me. I thought, ok this it. Nope. He just kept going like I wasn't there.

I was doing 20 over in PA on the way to a F1 race in NY. My radar didn't pick up the trooper hiding in the mountain pass. I was in my Triumph Stag with the wife and thought, ok this is it. To this day I don't know why he did not chase me down. I know I did not slow down. Oh, yah, I saw that unique hat they wear so I know he was in there.

I knew this guy that was riding a motorcycle on the freeway in a state by the ocean. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and passed a state trooper on the side of the road who had somebody pulled over. The Trooper looked at the guy and started to point but the guy on the bike had shifted from 6th to 4th and was gone before the Trooper even got into his cruiser.

One time, and one time only, I was doing about 85 on the Interstate back when the limit was still 55. I blew past a state trooper and knew he had me. No sense slamming on the brakes. But there was a blind exit less than a half mile down the road. I took it, at an almost reasonable speed, and immediately pulled into a gas station. I saw him scream past the exit with lights flashing, no doubt trying to catch up with me. I wasn't evading, since I didn't see his lights on until he passed the exit. I thought about chasing him down and turning myself in....no I didn't.

OMG, that 55 mph time was such a joke!!! Unless you got caught; then it wasn't funny.

I was returning to Phoenix, AZ from a weekend in San Diego. I had come out of the mountain curves (in a company sedan) and was going I don’t know speed on the straight and flat, and staying in the left lane while I passed a bunch of cars.

I got pulled over and the cop wrote me up for not having my headlights on at dusk. He said he saw me pass a bunch of cars, yet he didn’t know how fast I was going.

ok how about i got away with it...?

many moon ago we were on our way to the airport to go to Hawaii.
somewhere around 4:00 am it was, heavy fog, coming out of Leominster on rt 2 into Boston, virtually no traffic.
cruising along at around 50 when suddenly I have a car on my driver's side rear quarter panel, just hanging there.
After a mile or two of this game I assumed I'd picked up a drunk who was using my car for guidance.
I pushed it up to 60 to shake . He hung right with me. I quickly tired of this game and punched it up to 80.
Again he stuck right with me. I was just about to slam on the brakes and let him go by when the blues came on.
BALLS!!!!!!
"License and registration Please? I'm dying to hear this one!"
"Can you follow back to my cruiser, please?"

I explained that" I thought i had picked up a drunk who was hanging on my bumper"

"WOW OK I'll make a deal if you haven't had a ticket in a year, I'll let you off."

History comes across the terminal, my last ticket was 366 days before, a year and a day.
"well a deal is a deal, Slow down OK?"

Hopped back in my car and we made our way to Hawaii.

I've gotten more than a few citations and warnings along the way but not that day.

I took my lumps one time when I got caught. I had a 86 mustang GT and had just tuned it up and figured I would take it for a test run. It was a summertime holiday weekend and everybody was at the beach, I lived in R.I. at the time near the guy with the motorcycle, and I lived in the city right near 95. So I knew there was a part of 95 that had barriers on both sides and no place for cops to hide and do radar. So I open it up I'm going through the gears and come to an overpass and in the shadows parked under the bridge is an idling police car so I hit the binders and pull right over. The trooper didn't even have to get out of the breakdown lane. He was very professional and said that he clocked me at well over 100 but he wrote me up for 80 in a 55. I remember I had to go to court for it and remember the court clerk telling me I should of fought it but I figured I was lucky and don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
