There are many "styles" of Tai Chi, but they are all branches from the original -- sort of like different denominations of Christianity. Each style emphasizes a different aspect of the art. But the most common form is the 24-form (or movement) "combined" standard. This is the "competition" style that is the most basic. You can see a video of it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=649hFMpWIUc

Performed by a former men world champion from China. This is the form that is most often taught to beginners.

If you do decide to learn Tai Chi, keep in mind that the whole body is involved in every move, not just your arms or you legs. Pay attention to the subtle body turns and twists, weight shifts, and application of strength at the end of the movement (muscle tense). Each movement should be very fluid, not stiff or jerking. You should be one with the universe when you practice. Good luck.

Thanks for the link. Jim and I watched the video along with another one. I have absolutely no coordination and will probably embarrass him to death. We watched in silence and at the end I turned to him and said "I promise not to let anyone know I'm your wife so you won't be embarrassed." He said, "when you hear the thud don't look, that'll be me." We still want to take classes. My 80+ year old neighbor has been practicing for a number of years and loves it. He highly recommends the classes and then we'll be able to practice along with him.

Sent in my registration forms and payment today. Classes start September 15. The classes will be held in a classroom just across from a chocolate shop.

I see no problem here, Val.

A little work out, a little chocolate, a little less guilt when indulging in the chocolate, because after all, you just worked out.

Here's a fun little experiment to try.

Extend your arm to the side. Have your hubby push down on it while you try and hold it up. Now repeat the same experiment, first with a tsp of refined sugar under your tongue when he pushes and then a little bit later, a piece of dark chocolate.

I have no idea why this does what it does when it does it.

I've never been uber crazy about chocolate. My hubby however is a total chocoholic. I'll have to rip the chocolate from his fingers to put it in my mouth. Worse yet, I'll have to somehow pry him from the chocolate shop to the classes.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I would be doing the same. Who needs exercise when there's chocolate to be eaten.
