Have you ridden any of those bikes yet or anything close to them?

Define close! The precise answer is no I haven't.
I did however have my '84 honda interceptor which was of the crotch rocket flavor.
Horsepower was certainly down from these and weight was up.
It clearly wasn't as crotchy or as rockety but the consequences for stupid or inattention were the same.
At 80 MPH a rigid obstruction like a guardrail or bridge abutment is just as hard regardless on what platform you are on.
You can get to 80 a little bit quicker, I did however make enough stupid moves to understand how fast consequences can bite you.
I think to answer your question differently Rob, I know why they call it "stupid fast."

Jerry, I think you should just switch over to this beauty. These fall under the term "stupid slow"!

I was thinking more about the comfort aspect. I too had a crotch rocket from the same era but I was in my twenties then, I think now 30 years later riding a crotch rocket would get old a lot faster.
Do they make anything currently that would be equivalent to the old Yamaha FJ 1100/1200? that was a great compromise between sport and cruiser.

Scooooots you read my mind. I was going to post the same thing. All the speed, hp, etc. to me - car, bike, whatever - is just a numbers game and bragging rights. To really have fun drive something slow as fast as it will go. But then I won't drive this any more because it scares me.

What is that polished circular device, on the lower side of the gas tank?

Thanks!

Fuel shutoff. ( petcock)
Scoots I like "stupid slow"

Robb,
I was thinking along those lines, I was always enamored with the Honda ST1100.
My neighbors where we used to live had a pair of them. It was that that attracted me to the Concours.

When I had my interceptor I was in my 30's It was actually fairly comfortable. The down on the clips riding position worked for me.
Mind you, figuring out where to put this gut now may be an issue. it wasn't there in my 30's

An awful lot of those outerwear makers must think skinny little runts with wash board bellies are the only ones who ride bikes.
I want some batter protective clothing but need... a relaxed fit around the waste.
I don't have a beer belly, it's just plain old fat.

FANCY petcock! I'm used to the old fashioned ones that hang under the tank.
