Default Tsunami

I'm a member of another forum and one of our participants lives in Sumatra. His business (coffee shop) was destroyed and some of his family members are missing. I have a for these people. He posted briefly and asked for prayers for all his people. I am glad he is allright, but I cannot imagine the horrors of what has happened.

This has also been very troubling to me. I stayed up late last night checking a couple of early news threads and Googling the epicenter site to read about it. We have very good friends who are touring in India, and pray for their safety.....but the death toll is unfathomable

By coincidence, I had just been reading about Sri Lanka over the weekend....the paradise....no longer

The pictures of the dead children and mass graves are too sad to imagine....

I am absolutely amazed by the power of the tsunami. It is hard to believe the speed it travels at or the power it packs. It is hard to believe the amount of death and destruction it left in it's wake.

Our friends in Bali were swimming in the ocean when the devastation occured. Luckily, Bali was spared and they heard about it the same way we did. The economy there is just recovering from the disco bombing.

Very sad all around. My heart and prayers go out to all who are suffering. I will be donating to the recovery effort this time around. It really is hard to imagine such awesome power, though.

The power of ocean waves is quite amazing. The energy of a wave front does not dissipate unless it sees an obstruction. This wave actually traveled on the ocean floor which I would have assumed would have drawn off some of the energy, but they said that the speed of the wave when it Somalia (the furthest point to make destructive landfall) was ~325MPH .
They say that the quake actually affected the rotation of the earth!

That said, I hope that all everyone (on the planet) will do what they can to help the survivors. I heard the number of dead is noe at over 40,000.

When the tectonic plates start shifting, there is usually more than one event. Has anyone heard what the experts are saying about more activity elsewhere in the earth's crust as a result of this powerful shift?

There was a So Cal member named Brant (sixone) vacationing in Thailand when the tsunami hit the island he was on. 200+ people from the island perished including one person from the group he was with. He and his g/f had only minor cuts and bruises.
