I think they were all at the Hagerstown Fall Colors meet in 2003, where many of us on S2Ki met for the first time. As I recall, there were 130 cars - 11 of them were owned by women, including Granny, Val and yours truly. The years have flown by. A lot of water under the bridge.

OK...back to turkey.

I was there. Seems like a million years ago but parts of it seem like yesterday.

We are not hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year. If I recall correctly, it is only the second time in the 51 Thanksgiving Days since we have been married. One time, probably in the late 1960's or early 1970's, we were invited to a fellow graduate student's home for Thanksgiving. They were from England, and didn't celebrate Thanksgiving in England, but wanted to host a Thanksgiving in the U.S. It was a very eventful day. They lived in very tiny student housing, with a very tiny oven. Well, the large turkey caught on fire in the very tiny oven! They put the fire out with the fire extinguisher, and then had to call campus security since they had used the fire extinguisher. Campus security came, replaced (or refilled) the fire extinguisher, filled out paperwork, etc.

The reason we are not hosting this year is that our kitchen remodel is starting this coming week, and the demolition is starting this coming Monday or Tuesday!

We could have waited until after the holidays to start the kitchen, but we just wanted to get started with no further delay since the planning stages took us so long!

Besides, even if we had waited until after Thanksgiving to start the kitchen, it didn't seem feasible to host Thanksgiving since lots of stuff is packed away in boxes, stored in the basement, etc.

Our daughter and husband were hoping that they would be able to host Thanksgiving in the new home that they are having built this year. The original finish date was supposed to be around Thanksgiving, then moved to around Christmas, now moved to sometime in January! They said they would like to host it next year.

goblue and I don't really want to try to cook dinner for ourselves in our "temporary kitchen" on Thanksgiving, nor did we want to go to a restaurant, so we have decided that we are going to volunteer at a nearby church that hosts a noontime Thanksgiving meal for people who would otherwise be alone for Thanksgiving, may be homeless, etc. We will likely be helping to serve the meal there, perhaps helping with a little cooking, and socializing with the lonely people.

Our whole family will be getting together at our son's house the Saturday after Thanksgiving for our grandson's 7th birthday. He was actually born on Thanksgiving Day 2011. Oh, for those of you wondering, the birthday party is after the OSU/Michigan football game.

Very nice, Sue. I'll bet it will be one of your more memorable Thanksgivings. Loved the story of the flaming turkey!

I just saw a recipe for Cranberry Fruit Conserve on Ina Garten's The Barefoot Contessa. Think I will make that.

Good luck with the kitchen remodel, Sue! I'm still happy with mine after 11 years (!). You will love it. Be sure to post pics.
