While you do the nature tour, I think we will start south down in Williamsburg and work our way west.
PM sent.

+1 says I should recommended the Grand Caverns, so I'm letting you know that. Lainey, could you PM your itinerary? Natural Bridge is about 90 minutes from me and I'd love to meet you guys in the area there. Travel in/out of my town is always a bit slower than other places since we have no interstate within an hour, but the drive over to Natural Bridge is one of my favorite mountain drives even though its slowed due to trucks, etc. going over the 3 mountains that separate us from the interstate .

PM sent, Val. We're hoping to hit the Natural Bridge possibly Tuesday or Wednesday. We'd love a guided tour. I'll keep +1's suggestion of caverns in mind too. We may hit that one from our Waynesboro "headquarters."

We've been to Howe Caverns in NY and try to see the "nature tourist spots" when traveling. Time in the Shenandoah National Park is on our list too. Have you been there, Matt?
I have been to Howe Caverns as a kid. My parents summer house was only about eight miles from there.

Yes I have spent some time in the Shenandoah National Park. Mostly on Skyline Drive on a motorcycle with a bit of hiking years ago. It is nice.

But be advised of two things: Deer are everywhere (as they are safe there) and the speed limit on Skyline Drive is 25 MPH and it is a Federal Ticket. But, if you have never been along the Skyline Drive that starts at the north end in Front Royal and then turns into "The Blue Ridge Parkway down towards Wintergreen it would be worth going slow in one direction to take in the sights.

That's pretty much what we hope to do. Check out the sites, scenery, find nice roads to travel on, low key, no rush to do anything kind of vacation. That is until we get to SF07.

BTW, I had requested a Virgina Tourist package. It included a map of 'scenic roads'.

I think I have the same map. Shows the roads, caverns, Civil War site info, wineries too, if you are so inclined.

Its a good thing you're not going to be in a rush. This is the south and we do things a bit more slowly down here 'cuz its HOT and HUMID and we SWEAT. (Not to mention the local constabulary are always hiding out trying to catch you doing something with more speed than they allow . . . and they get downright arrogant from the moment you make them have to get out of their comfy cars ) I'm serious. They unbuckle their gun holsters as soon as they emerge from their vehicles.

We'll keep that in mind, Val. We need some quiet/no rush time. Our last vacation was to the Grand Canyon and we were on the go all the time. This time I expect to be on the go, but if we don't get somewhere or see something, I won't worry about it.

Besides I've got to save some energy for those crazy car folks we'll be meeting up with at the Wintergreen resort! Now those folks wear me out!
