Vacation Plans 2016
Well, I had already planned our trip to Lafayette LA for the +1 to run the Zydeco Half Marathon next March. See my separate thread for that. Hoping some of you can join us for good food and music.
Now that my time is my own for the first time in a long time, I've just planned an 8-day trip for us for next May aboard the Rocky Mountaineer (www.rockymountaineer.com), a wonderful train trip through the Canadian Rockies. Starts in Calgary, and includes stops in Banff, Lake Louise, Kamloops, and Vancouver before ending in Seattle. Plan to see my nephew and his wife in Seattle.
We have also talked about a trip to Paris, Giverny (location of Monet's famous gardens), and the Normandy beaches, but will put that one off until 2017, when the +1 may run the Paris Half Marathon. I had thought about the Viking River Cruise, but a boat is not that appealing to the +1, so probably will do a land trip.

Could be right up your alley.Pedal Pub I think it would work great down here. I'll bet I could get a city permit. All I need is a pedaler.
I have no idea where I'll end up on vacation. Key West for sure. Everything else is spur of the moment.
MsP I've done the train thru Banff. You'll love it!!

I'll bet that's a fun convention.

^ Yeah, I went on several cruises (to Quebec and Montreal, through the Panama Canal, the Caribbean) with my ex and enjoyed them, but never a river cruise. I think it would be nice and I did some serious checking into the Paris/Giverny/Normandy one on Viking. The +1 likes his space, which is ironic since he spent so many years on a submarine and says he misses it. The group thing is probably not for him. Anyhoo, the Rocky Mountaineer train stops at the various places and we stay at hotels, not on the train. There are tours along the way. There is no gym on the Viking boats, although there is a track that he could have run around up top. And through the countryside on the stops. Paris will happen, just not next year. I will probably end up booking the hotel in Paris myself without a group and taking day tours to Giverny and Normandy. It's not like I don't know the city and things to do. I lived there for three years when I was young and have been back twice since. We'll see. And I do speak French. Ireland is on the agenda at some point, too. I have the fjords of Norway on my list, and we have to go to Italy together (we've been separately). Areas we will probably not visit are Australia and Asia, although it would be very interesting. Getting to them just takes sooo long. Hawaii is even too far for us these days (10 hours), but I've been four times already so no burning desire to go again.
